“Regular maintenance on any steel structure can make the difference between requiring a coat of paint, or a completely new staircase”

Maintenance Issues

After we have completed our inspections, a report is provided outlining any issues we find. Some can be minor and not affect the structural integrity of the structure, others can be major and prevent a certificate being issued.

Our report is structured so that you can complete these recommendations yourself, or arrange for a contractor of you choosing to complete. We also offer aa service to complete these for you.

Minor Maintenance

A common issue we find with steel structures is that rust has appeared in places, and that requires removing before spreading. The area then requires being repainted. Missing hi-visibility nosing missing from treads and platforms is also common and while these are not the hardest issues to fix, they are not easy to complete with a perfect finish.

Thorough Maintenance

In some cases where rust has developed and not been treated for a long period of time, a more thorough cleaning of the affected area may be required, involving removing portions of the structure to clean, repair and finish. This may involve the use of specialist tooling.

Heavy Maintenance

Those structures in a very bad shape may need works maintenance that requires replacing parts of the structure with new parts. Sometimes in these cases it can be more efficient to install a new structure once all costs are calculated.

In this instance we will provide a  ‘no obligation’ quotation for these works to be completed. You can also use our report to obtain quotations from your preferred contractor, and as soon as the required works are completed, we will issue a certificate for the structure.
